We present evidence — we don’t issue Islamic rulings.
Certificates, direct calls and visits, owner forms, and trusted community input — each recorded with its source and date.
Each listing gets a halal tier from that evidence and the date we last checked it — never a claim of religious certainty.
See why each place is listed, how it was verified, and when — then confirm directly before you go.
Every listing shows where its halal information came from: a certificate, a conversation with the owner, or a community report.
Every listing carries the date we last checked it, and warns you as that date gets older.
We never blur certification, owner confirmation and community reports into one "halal" label. Each has its own tier.
We present evidence and say plainly what we have not confirmed. We do not issue religious rulings.
Most restaurant directories copy a business’s own description and leave it there. That doesn’t work for halal food. A restaurant can call itself halal while buying some of its meat from a non-halal supplier, cooking halal chicken on the same grill as bacon, or letting a certificate lapse. The label alone doesn’t tell you what you need to know, so we try to find out.
We start by searching public business listings for restaurants that describe themselves as halal, and we add places readers send us. At that point a restaurant is only a candidate. It doesn’t appear as verified until we have evidence.
Then we contact the restaurant and speak to the owner or manager. We ask whether the meat is halal, whether it is zabiha (hand-slaughtered), and whether there is a prayer space, and we record the certifying body if the restaurant names one. Each answer is logged with its source and date. Where a certificate has been checked with the body that issued it, the listing says so. Where it hasn’t, the listing says that too.
From that evidence each listing gets a tier: certified, owner-verified, community-reported, or not yet verified. The tier describes the kind of evidence we hold. It is not a ruling on whether you should eat there, because Muslims follow different standards on questions such as machine-slaughtered chicken, stunning, and alcohol on the premises. Instead of choosing one standard for everyone, we show you the facts and leave the decision to you.
Every listing page has a verification record showing how and when the restaurant was checked and what is still unconfirmed. When a detail is unknown, we say “Not confirmed” rather than guess, and when a date could not be recorded exactly, we mark it as an estimate. Nothing is published automatically: our team reviews every listing, community submission and correction before it appears.
Restaurants change suppliers, owners and menus, so information ages. Each listing shows its last-checked date and warns you as it gets older. If you spot something out of date, the “report incorrect information” link on every listing comes straight to us.
Evidence-based answers for popular restaurant chains, ingredients, and foods — each with cited sources and the date we last checked. We present evidence and don’t issue rulings. You decide.
